Andrew Grima Burmese Ruby Brooch

£7,950.00

Andrew Grima Burmese Ruby Brooch This is an amazing and rare piece of mid century jewellery combining three of London’s leading jewellers!  It was designed by Andrew Grima and manufactured in his workshop in Greys Inn Road in 1960.

Alan Gard made the brooch which is in the form of a beautiful flower set with certified Burmese rubies and diamonds with brushed gold petals in 18ct gold.   Nearly everything Alan made went to a shop in Motcomb Street, Knightsbridge owned by Michael Gosschalk who had his own hallmark and supplied Princess Margaret with some of her distinctive pieces of jewellery.   This is why the initials on the brooch are MG, but actually this is a Grima piece.

To the reverse the brooch is fitted with a pin and security lock.  The 5 rubies are round Mixed/Oval Mixed and weight 1.74ct.  There are 3 Brilliant cut diamonds in the centre and one at the base of the stem, total weight: 0.25ct.  Weight: 26.18gm.

The brooch is large and measures:  7cm x 4.5cm (2 3/4″ x 1 3/4″).  It is in very good condition showing virtually no signs of wear.  Hallmarked Michael Gosschalk 18ct gold, London 1960.

This beautiful brooch is accompanied by a written statement by Alan Gard confirming the details of its manufacture, and an AnchorCert certificate stating the rubies to be natural, unheated and from Burma.  Ref: L129
