Edwardian Sapphire Diamond Gold Bangle This is a superb example of an early 20th century half hoop bangle set with 7 deep blue synthetic sapphires weighing 8.75ct separated by sets of 3 Old European cut diamonds totalling 1.40ct and mounted over a carved and scrolled gallery.
The bangle opens on a side hinge and closes with a push-in clasp. It is also fitted with a safety chain for added security.
The technique for creating synthetic sapphires was developed by French chemist A.V. Verneuil at the end of the 19th century by heating natural sapphire up to 2000c and removing all the impurities, leaving a perfect stone.
Tested as 15ct gold. Weight: 17.9g. Measurements: Depth 10mm x 7mm; Internal diameter: 5.5cm x 5cm (2 1/4″ x 2″); Circumference: 16.5cm (6 1/2″) so the bracelet will fit a small – medium sized wrist.
The bracelet is in very good condition and dates from around 1900 – 1910. Ref: V1408
