Victorian Enamel and Diamond Horseshoe Brooch
£0.00
Victorian blue enamel and diamond mourning horseshoe brooch in 15ct gold; this is an extremely rare and exquisite mourning brooch, which at first glance appears to be a very pretty enamel and diamond lucky horseshoe brooch. The front of the horseshoe is blue enamel set with 8 rose cut diamonds totalling 0.08ct. However, on closer inspection there is a hidden compartment which opens on a hinge to reveal tightly woven dark brown hair inside. To the reverse there is a pin and hook closure. Weight: 3.02gm. Tested as 15ct gold. Measurements: 1.75cm x 1.6cm (3/4″ x 5/8″) It is in very good condition with just one tiny ding in the enamel. It dates from around 1860 -1880. For collectors of mourning or equine jewellery, this beautiful brooch would be a valuable addition to a collection. Ref: H066-20
