Victorian Garnet 9ct Gold Brooch

The Alice Collection – Antique Victorian garnet and 9ct gold brooch; this is one of several garnet brooches in Alice’s collection and clearly a firm favourite style! It is a classic mid Victorian brooch when garnets were all the rage and is set with three oval stones, two with the purplish hues of the almandine garnets, and the centre stone with the dark red tones seen more often in garnets.  They are sitting in the centre of an elegantly carved and scrolled mount decorated with foliage.  To the reverse the brooch is fitted with a pin and hook closure and a safety chain for added security.  Weight: 7.90gm.  Measurements: 4.30cm x 3.0cm (1 3/4″ x 1 2/5 “).  Tested as 9ct gold.  The brooch is in excellent condition and has been professionally re-polished.  C. 1860 – 1880.  Ref: H066-76
