Antique Victorian Cavalier King Charles Spaniel micro mosaic brooch; this was a very popular style of brooch with the Victorians and very fashionable during the mid 19th century. A fashion which started with Queen Victoria who had a cavalier King Charles spaniel which began a trend of micro mosaic/pietra dura brooches. Dogs and flowers were the most popular subjects. The workmanship is of fine quality and the mosaic is set into black glass. There are a few nibbles around the glass in keeping with the age of this piece. The brooch is mounted on a 9ct gold frame which is stamped 9c and tested as 9ct gold. To the reverse there is a pin and hook closure as well as small ring to attach a safety chain. Weight: 6.20gm. Measurements: 2.5cm x 2cm (1 1/8″ x 7/8″). C.1850. Good vintage condition. Ref: H066-23
